TYRE SAFETY
t is important to inspect your tyres regularly for visible signs of damage (cuts, uneven wear, bulges in the tyre wall) and to contact Lloyd Tyres for a check when you do find any damage.
Areas to check are:
Tread Depth
- All treads (including the spare) must be greater than the legal minimum limit of 1.6mm depth in a continuous brand throughout the central three-quarters of the tread width and across the whole circumference of the tyre.
- Grip can be significantly diminished with wear, affecting stopping distances, especially in wet conditions.
Tyre Pressure
Tyre pressure should be checked regularly when the tyre is cold to avoid:
- Low tyre pressure which can result in structural damage due to overheating, increased fuel consumption, reduced grip and irregular/premature wear of the tyre shoulder areas.
- Excessive tyre pressure can lead to a greater risk of a blow-out, excessive wear on the centre of the tread and a less comfortable driving experience.
Tracking & Alignment
It is important to checking the tracking and wheel alignment at regular intervals as poor alignment and tracking causes irregular and rapid tyre wear, resulting in the need to replace tyres more frequently.
